Why the League of Legends World Championship is the Crown Jewel of Esports

The eSports season is entering its most interesting part, and you can already tell that we're talking about the League of Legends World Championship. The Worlds is the biggest LoL event of the year, and some might argue in eSports in general.

There's plenty of reasons why many see this event as the crown jewel of eSports, and the biggest one is the fact it pits the best LoL and eSports teams against each other. Regional leagues send their best who are then divided into groups of this multi stage tournament. The eventual winner is crowned the World Champion and there is no bigger honour than that in the universe of eSports.

What makes the Worlds so appealing to both the players, teams, and the audience is its global reach. Each year, the LoL World Championship is held in a different region. Due to this little organizational perk fans from all over the world find themselves grasping on to the opportunity to experience the best eSports has to offer through the LoL Worlds. This way it is not an entertainment and sports event, but also an opportunity to blend both with local culture.

With the 2025 edition of the Worlds almost upon us, let's learn a little bit more about the tournament itself.

When & Where For LoL Worlds 2025?

If you remember, last year's edition was tied to the European continent. This time around we're going quite farther east, all the way to China. One of the biggest eSports markets in the world will host the 2025 League of Legends World Championship. This is not the first time China has this honour, but they've been on schedule since 2020.

As you know, China is a massive country, so the 2025 LoL Worlds will not be tied to one location only. Instead, we will have a chance to experience this tournament from the gates of Chengdu, Shanghai, and Beijing. Shanghai had the honour to host the 2020 Worlds, while Chengdu was home to the Mid Season Invitational last season.

As far as the tournament's schedule goes, it starts on October 14th. This season's Worlds is going to be one of the more monumental events of its kind, and the eventual winner is going to be crowned on November 9th. The good news regarding the organization is that this year's tourney is going to be shorter than last year's one. The reason is simple. Many fans deemed it inexcusable to have a one week break between quarter finals and the semi finals, claiming that so many days of rest killed the tournament's momentum, and took all the fun that was piling up in weeks prior.

Teams to Watch at The 2025 Worlds

The biggest LoL competition is almost upon us, and it is a good moment to take a look at the teams that have qualified, and who is favoured to win it all. If you plan on betting on the tournament it would be wise to check out these expert League of Legends World Championship betting tips before you do. Also, check out the teams we hold in high regard. Let's walk you through the regions participating.

LCK

South Korea has some of the best eSports teams in the world. The regions never disappoint, and when you hear the name that will be representing them at 2025 Worlds you will agree that the top favorites for this tourney come from LCK. The teams that have qualified are Gen.G Esports, KT Rolster, Hanwha Life Esports, and T1.

While we can't look past T1 as the most recent champions and one of the best LoL teams of all time, it is hard to argue against the thought that Gen. G is the world’s best League of Legends team at the moment. They've recorded victories against almost all opponents during 2025 and have been more than dominant during the MSI. Last year, they failed to win it all, and this is their chance to take revenge.

If you take a look at any League of Legends World Championship Sportsbook and the odds they have, even the KT Rolster and Hanwha Life eSports have more chances to win this year's edition of LoL Worlds than T1. Yet, even as a late qualifier, who was struggling in recent months, we wouldn't put it past T1 and Faker to make a surprise run for the title once again.

LPL

The host region will have plenty of hopes put into their teams to fight off South Korean teams that have been dominating the competition for years now. The top teams from the LPL region to qualify are Bilibili Gaming, Anyone’s Legend, Top Esports, and Invictus Gaming. Bilibili Gaming has been running the eSports show for years, but just before this tournament they've been poor. Yet, the big stage is not a foreign ground for them as they've been in the 20204 Final. Their most recent win came at LPL 2025 Split 3, still making them the top team from China, with the second one being Top eSports, who have lost the LPL 2025 Split 3 to Bilibili Gaming. Anyone's Legend and Invictus Gaming are also in the mix, but are not as well positioned as some of the other teams we've already mentioned. The former was second at the eSports World Cup 2025 and took home the LPL Split 2 victory in 2025, making them a dark horse in our eyes. If you think the same, their odds at Stake.com are set at 8.50 to win the trophy and that's a fine bet that could come through if only a few stars align and a few others drop (we're talking of you T1).

LTA

Unlike the two top regions above, LTA is bringing forth only three teams. The qualification for the Worlds can be harsh and this is the result. Either way, we shouldn't look away from 100 Thieves, FlyQuest, and Keyd Stars. 100 Thieves will be a formidable opponent for every team they face, but 2025 was not their best year. After a string of failures they're on the brink of exiting LTA. At the same time, FlyQuest is having a fine season, recording their first win at the LTA North 2025 Split 2. A team on the rise needs to be watched, but the 2025 LoL World Championship is going to be their testing ground which will show whether they're for better and bigger things in the future. This year, they're not among the favourites. While we have utmost respect for the team of Keyd Stars, they've been disappointing this season, and are entering the Worlds without any aspirations for winning. Their odds of 75.00 reflect this notion.

LEC

The LEC region is not to be underestimated, but this is not their year by any means. The bookies agree with us too. G2 Esports at 25.00, KOI 30.00, and Fnatic at 35.00 are not really favoured to go all the way. We could say that they're a far cry from the glory days, especially in the case of Fnatic. The same can be said for G2 eSports that were once revered as an European powerhouse. While the situation is not favourable for them, we know that the experience and past glory will be the main motivators for G2 eSports. Among these three teams, KOI is the one to be watched, as they've been fairly good at Esports World Cup 2025 and even bested Faker and T1 in one match.

LCP

We're wrapping it up with the LCP region that also secured only three spots for its teams at the 2025 LoL Worlds in China. The Pacific region will be represented by PSG Talon, Secret Whales, and CTBC Flying Oyster. The latter is the team to have an eye on in coming weeks. Coming strong after winning the LCP 2025 Mid Season they will be looking to maximize their good form at the Worlds. Their odds do not reflect the respect they have in the LoL universe. If you want to wager on CTBC Flying Oyster, their win is 35.00. for a dark horse, that is a gift. Secret Whales and PSG Talon are coming as less known teams, as far as the big stage of LoL goes, and we are not too sure what to expect from them if anything. The former is a team that will be lucky to snatch at least one win, and with their odds set at 75.00 it will be a wonder if they have even one. The latter is a little better positioned, but with PSG Talon's odds set at 45.00 we're not expecting too much, and neither should you.

Now that we have the top teams, and all participants in general, listed above, it would be a good moment to give you a few directions on how to bet on LoL, and a few betting strategies and tips that could help if you're not too sure how to approach this subject.

How to Bet on League of Legends

First of all, you need to find an online sportsbook platform that offers betting markets on eSports and particularly on League of legends. Once you have, open an account with them, register, and make a deposit. When you've done that, you need to find the betting market tied to LoL Worlds 2925, and you can make your picks on particular matches or on outrights winners.

The majority of players rely on the two following bets:

  • Match Winner: A bet which requires you to guess a winner of one match. The best aprt about betting on LoL is that there are no draws, ties, or overtime.
  • Map Winner: Here, you can bet on a team to win more duels on a certain map. It is also a two way bet, and the odds for this one are higher than on a simple match winner.

If you're new to LoL betting, it is better to stick to these two types of bets. Once you muster them, you can explore the rest of the betting markets that include bets such as:

  • Map Handicap
  • Total Maps/Kills (Over/under)
  • Correct Score
  • Prop Bets like First Blood, first to destroy a tower, or first to destroy an inhibitor.
  • Parlays and same game multibets.
  • Outrights

LoL, and eSports in general are not too different from your regular sports you bet on. At the end of the day, it is two teams going against each other, and guessing the right result is all there is to it. To get better at predicting LoL scores, here are a few strategies and tips to use.

LoL Worlds Betting Tips & Strategies

Each betting experience can be difficult if you start in the wrong place and head to a wrong direction. The best place to start is at an online casinos guide section.

Big brands such as Stake provide players with guides on how to bet. Each game or a sport has a dedicated guide in addition to general ones. When you're new to a game or sport, it is better to learn how to bet on it before you start. Learning while you're already betting can be painful and financially irresponsible.

Secondly, you need to understand how every competition is formatted. LoL worlds are divided into a couple of stages. The popular Swiss stage is only a one game duel. Elimination rounds are played in bets of 3 formats. Once we reach the knockout stage the format changes to best of 5. This is important to know when wagering. The Swiss round can bring many surprises our way, while in the knockout stages the better team wins most of the time.

Lastly, just like any other sport, LoL and eSports in general have stats, teams have form or a lack of it, and players can create moments of magic. Pay attention to all of it when wagering. One small detail can change the outcome of a match, and so can your minor bet lead to a major parlay hit. All in all, 2025 Worlds awaits us all and it is better to go prepared just the way top teams are doing it.
