IEM Rio 2024 Results of the Day 1: Pain and Imperial eliminated from the tournament
Yesterday, October 7 began the first day of IEM Rio 2024, the highly anticipated tournament in Brazil. Open matches and first bo3, showed us how good and competitive the Tier-1 Scene is now.
Recall that the opening matches were played in the bo1 format, which determined which teams will play in the lower and which in the upper brackets, then the teams played their first matches in the format bo3. More information about the tournament rules and details, can be found in our main article about IEM Rio 2024.

Now let's take a closer look at the recent matches
Faze Clan 7-13 Furia
One of the opening matches of the tournament, was exactly the duel between Faze and Furia and it came as a surprise to many. Furia had been having terrible results in Tir-1 tournaments lately and there was no hope for her to perform at least mediocre in this tournament. Faze Clan was in a slump, but it seemed that it would be easy to beat Furia even in their current form.
As it turned out, it wasn't! Almost the whole match, Furia kept Faze Clan at bay and the team looked very cohesive and confident. The final score of the match is very logical, no matter how hard Faze tried to get back into the game, it was impossible.

Mouz 13-11 Pain
The second opening match ended with a fairly logical victory for Mouz over Pain, albeit not confident enough with a minimal lead. And I would like to point out that Jimpphat didn't play as well as he could in this match. The match was evenly matched, despite the fact that at some points, Pain was even ahead of their opponents. Nevertheless, Mouz were able to shut down the Brazilians and take the score to 1-0.
NaVi 13-2 Imperial
The match between Navi and Imperial was one of the most boring matches of the days. Total domination of the Ukrainians, which resulted in the complete destruction of the Brazilian representatives, there is nothing more to add.

Liquid 13-6 Complexity
The North American derby between Liquid and Complexity was won by Team Liquid, who despite Yekinder's terrible play, still held their own on the Inferno map. The first half was obviously for the “horses” and Complexity literally could not oppose anything. It is worth noting the very decent performance of Australian Jks, who finished the match with a score of 19-12 and 1.57 rating.
Vitality 13-3 9z
The second most boring match was the duel between the French Vitality and the South American collective 9z. Although in previous tournaments 9z showed their Latin flamboyance in the first Bo1 against Vitality, they got bulldozed by Zywoo. The score of 13-3 demonstrates this.

G2 10-13 Heroic
The G2 vs Heroic match was sensational indeed. Recall that at the last tournament Blast Premier Fall Finals 2024, G2 played great and took the 1st place by beating Navi in the final. Heroic are experiencing stagnation, which is very difficult to get out of. Nevertheless, somehow, in the first match, the Danish team managed to win on G2. In the first half of the match, Heroic literally destroyed G2, most surprisingly Hunter literally did not appear on the map and his performance was the worst in recent memory. In the second half, G2 started to play as hard as possible and malbsMd clutches prove it. And yet, no matter how hard G2 tried to correct their mistakes, Heroic still managed to finish this match in their favor.
Virtus.pro 10-13 Mongolz
The next match was quite intense, which can't be said for the others. Although this match raised a lot of questions among Virtus.pro fans, everything ended quite logically. Mongolz has become a full-fledged Tier-1 team, and that's fair enough. Their victory confirmed it once again.
Mongolz played their best map, and we will remind you that Mongolz has 70% winrate on mirage. 910 reasserted himself with his excellent frags and the whole team played their game. Minimal mistakes, maximum concentration. Electronik tried to pull VP out of this abyss, but in vain. This is a victory for Mongolz.
Eternal Fire 11-13 Astralis
And the last Bo1 match of the first game day, was a battle between Astralis and Eternal Fire. The Danes started the match very powerfully, trying to impose the game, but the Turks in the second half were able to break it. Double dev1ce was the best highlight of the match. The game was quite equal, so it is not worth saying that any of the teams was worse. A decent match-up and a decent result for Astralis, who were still a small step ahead of EF.
Navi 2-1 Liquid
One of the first bo3 fights between Navi and Liquid, was spectacular and intriguing. It can definitely be called one of the best matches of the evening, if not the best. On the first map, Inferno, Liquid tore up NaVi and it became alarming, as Liquid is not in the best conditions and performs unsteadily. But on the first map, the Canadian duo led by Twistzzz did their job.
On the second and third maps, the Ukrainian team managed to pull themselves together and using all their strength knocked out Liquid. The match turned out to be bright, with many highlights, especially from b1t and W0nderful. Let's not forget about IM, who worked as a cleaner the entire match. a great fight from both Liquid and Navi, but HLTV Top 1 still managed to prove their status.

Furia 2-1 MOUZ
In the first bo3 between Furia and Mouz, the Brazilians surprised us again. A cool performance from KSCERATO decided the fate of the match. The total score of the Brazilian was 50-31 with a 1.48 rating. I wonder what kind of potion the Brazilians drank to play so well again - it's just incredible.
The 1st map, Nuke, ended with a score of 13-8 in favor of Furia, but MOUZ did not lose their nerve and tied Mirage, leaving no chance for the Brazilians with a score of 5-13. The third map, Dust 2, became a complete disaster for MOUZ, they could not counter this map considering that Dust 2 is one of MOUZ's worst maps in terms of win rate. 2-0 in total for the Brazilians in 1 day and this result is quite worthy of respect.

Faze 2-1 Pain
In the match between Faze Clan and Pain, Faze once again showed some weakness. Undoubtedly, the match ended with the triumph of Faze Clan, but not with the score that the fans demanded. Such an unclear game of Faze makes one wary. And again, Ropz shone, who almost every round rushed back and forth in search of another victim of his headshot.
Pain did not give up either and snatched the 2nd map, Mirage, but in overtime. Snow and Nqz tried to add intrigue to the match, but alas, it did not work out and Nuke remained under the control of Faze. 2-1 final score, not an easy walk, but the main thing is the result.
Complexity 2-1 Imperial
And let's move on to the last match of day 1. Imperial against Complexity, in which the American team won. The match turned out to be quite interesting and literally "competitive". After the defeat from Navi, Imperial did not give up and in the match against Complexity tried to show their best and it paid off. Dust 2 went to Complexity in a tough fight and this was facilitated by the Argentine try together with decenty. There were some mistakes in the actions of the Brazilians, but at least they tried to be creative and make frags where possible. As a result, 1 map, Dust 2 ended in overtime. Complexity won with a score of 16-12.
The second map was the Brazilians' fortress. Vertigo is a very good map for such unpredictable teams as Imperial and on it they were able to recoup, 13-11. The last map, Anubis, was completely under Complexity's control and the Brazilians were unable to show anything there, despite having a 50% win rate on Anubis. However, Grim and Elige were merciless on the last map and left no chance. This was the end of Imperial's participation in IEM Rio.

We hope that the second day of the tournament will be no less interesting than the first and will bring us as many incredible emotions as the first. Let us remind you that all IEM Rio 2024 matches can be watched on the official ESL channels on Twitch.
